PUNTA GORDA
Punta Gorda is about 100 miles south of Tampa on the Gulf Coast between Sarasota and Ft. Myers. Punta Gorda, which means "fat point" when translated from Spanish, was given to the city because a broad part of the land in Punta Gorda jets into Charlotte Harbor. The harbor itself is somewhat unique, as it is the point where the Peace River meets the ocean.
The city is bounded by the harbor on one side and by rural land on the other. That rural land is home to large tracts of citrus, cattle and swamp with ranchettes that produce meat and fruits. The rural land eventually meets up with the borders of North Fort Myers. The city of Punta Gorda is a rich mix of cultures and age groups, as families, retirees and winter residents share neighborhoods.

BOCA GRANDE
The Historic Village of Boca Grande, on the island of Gasparilla, is located at the southern tip of the Cape Haze Peninsula on Florida’s Southwest Coast midway between Sarasota and Ft. Myers.
Nature has blessed this lush barrier island with seven miles of powdery white beaches stretching the entire Gulf side and surrounded it with cerulean waters—the kind one usually finds only in the Caribbean. The adjacent estuaries fed by the Myakka and Peace Rivers converge to form one of the most pristine and productive coastal ecosystems in the world.
Just north of the island is Placida where “Old Florida” flourishes. An artists’ enclave of brightly colored cracker cottages are filled with creative delights. At the south end of the island lies Boca Grande (Big Mouth) Pass, one of the deepest natural channels in Florida where tarpon congregate to feast on the abundant nourishment provided by the waters of Charlotte Harbor before spawning in the Gulf of Mexico.
At the center of the island lies the nucleus of this little community, The Historic Village of Boca Grande. Here, “Main Street” still exists with no stop lights, no billboards, no high-rises and no fast-food chains. You will find, however, unique shops and art galleries, casual and fine dining establishments serving fresh seafood just caught by the local fishing captains and prepared by any of the island’s classically trained chefs.
A favorite of photographers and movie producers, this is the secret island that presidents, dignitaries and celebrities sneak away to, because the island denizens have a low-key attitude regarding celebrity and fame. So, leave that “off island” world behind and come rejuvenate and recharge your senses where Florida is unplugged – come lose yourself in days gone by, for an hour, day, week or a lifetime.

Sarasota, together with its neighbors to the north and south, Manatee County and Charlotte County, form the 7th-largest market in Florida. It is also Florida's third-fastest growing major market. With over 600,000 people, the Sarasota/Manatee/Charlotte area is one of the largest, most affluent markets in Florida.
In the last 5 years, it has grown 4 times faster than the national average. The per capita retail sales are almost 20% above the national average. It has a strong base of retirement age people, about a third of the population, but the fastest-growing segment of the market is middle-aged adults and their children. It has approximately 1/4 the population of the Tampa/St. Petersburg area.
The beauty of Sarasota will get your attention on your first visit. If you see Sarasota first from the window of an airplane, the colors of the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay, contrasting with the brilliant white sand of Longboat, Lido, and Siesta beaches, will make you anxious to see more. A rainbow of colors comes from the tall condominiums shining in the sun, the warm tile on the roof and patio of the mansion built by circus magnate John Ringling, the various green hues from the lush jungle-like vegetation, the flowers that are blooming any month of the year, and the lavender seashell-design Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.
Sarasota boasts some of the oldest and newest homes in the area. Some homes were built over 50 years ago as winter vacation cottages. Others are new gated bayfront estates with manicured grounds, marble foyers, soaring ceilings, the newest fixtures and technological advances, and spectacular views.
More About Sarasota
The cultural, tropical jewel of Florida's West Coast. Sarasota's beginnings date back to the 1800's with the arrival of the Scottish. In the 1920's John Ringling placed his stamp on the community with elegant Mediterranean-styled homes, hotels and municipal buildings that give the area great charm and character that survives to this day.
Sarasota has grown into a cosmopolitan city with its own opera, ballet, symphony and performing arts center. The area abounds with theatres, art galleries, restaurants and elegant shopping. All of this and the white crystalline Gulf beaches of Siesta, Lido, and Longboat Keys make Sarasota one of the most desirable places to live in the world. Sarasota has just been named the #1 cit in the US to retire to!
World Famous Siesta Key
Siesta Key has three wonderful beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, where you can play, relax, or walk along the water's edge. Enjoy the sunshine and tropical breeze while you track the flight of pelicans and shorebirds, and keep an eye out for the playful dolphins. Fishing, shelling, swimming, parasailing, boating, snorkeling - take your pick. Or just sit back and relax, enjoying the view.
Siesta Key beaches are among the finest in the world, and we have plenty of awards to prove it. The powdery white sand, stretching for miles, is breath-takingly beautiful. No matter which of our gorgeous beaches you choose to visit, your time will be memorable…whether you find yourself digging your toes into the white sand as you read the latest bestseller, walking along the shore with someone you love, enjoying the splendor of a glorious sunset, or indulging in a refreshing dip in the warm tropical Gulf of Mexico waters. We hope you'll discover the unique charm of each of our three lovely beaches.
Siesta Beach is renowned for its breath-taking sunsets, easy-going waves, and gorgeous, crystal-white sand. The sand is 99% pure quartz, soft and cool on the feet. "The many awards it has earned include the 1987 Great International White Sand Challenge (in which its sand was scientifically proven to be the world's finest, whitest finest beach sand), "The Best Sand Beach in America" (The Travel Channel, 2004) and being rated number two on Dr. Beach's "Best Beaches in America in 2009 and 2010."
Walking along or swimming and playing in the Gulf of Mexico, or merely basking in the tropical sun is enough fun for many folks, but others are drawn by Siesta Beach's many amenities: tennis and volleyball courts, shaded playground and picnic area, and convenient concession stands. Shallow water near the shoreline and year-round lifeguard protection make it a great family beach.
There's always something to do at Siesta Beach, and it's within easy walking distance of the many shops and restaurants in Siesta Village. Come to enjoy the day or evening, and be sure to stop by the “Drum Circle” on Sunday evening, a theatrical feast for the eyes and ears as sunset falls on another perfect Siesta Key weekend.
Crescent Beach offers the same lush, white sands, azure waters, and stunning sunsets, but it is relatively secluded and quiet, as it has only one public access road. Located just south of Siesta Beach, the beach scene here tends to be more peaceful and private.
At the southern tip of this beach is the Point of Rocks - a lovely snorkeling and diving area that is rich with coral rock formations as well as colorful and abundant marine life. Crescent Beach visitors staying in nearby resorts, rentals and beach clubs rave (but only to their closest friends) about Siesta Key's best “non-private private” beach.
Turtle Beach
At the southern tip of Siesta Key is Turtle Beach, which provides a sportier, “family play” beach experience. The beach has picnic areas, a playground, a volleyball court and horseshoe pit. There's also a boat launch, and fishing is permitted in the adjacent Blind Pass Lagoon. There are restaurants nearby, with shopping and a few local night spots just a short drive away.
Holmes Beach & Anna Maria Island
Bradenton Beach is a charming and vibrant community of 1,500 located at the southern end of Anna Maria Island. The Island is located at the southern entrance to Tampa Bay on the Gulf of Mexico. We share the island with our sister cities of Holmes Beach and Anna Maria City.
Access to Anna Maria Island can be achieved from the mainland (Bradenton) via bridges on Cortez Road or Manatee Avenue or from Longboat Key to the south via the bridge over Longboat Pass
The city boasts miles of uninterrupted supervised public sugar sand beaches on the Gulf side and calm docking and mooring areas on the mangrove lined bay side.
You can fish from the popular City Pier, which features a full service Café and where bait is available. Inshore and offshore fishing tours are also readily available from local Guides. There are a number of Parks within city limits, including beach front with picnic facilities and public restrooms. There are numerous public accesses to the beach. There are also public boat ramps at the county managed Bay Side Park at the southern tip of the city.
